<p>There are unending amounts of weight loss pills and supplements that are available, but unless you create a healthy lifestyle for yourself, you risk gaining all of the weight back &#8211; and maybe even more.</p>
<p>In my search for a healthy, balanced diet, I&#8217;ve structured a list of tips that have helped me and many others cut excess body fat.</p>
<p>1) <strong>Set a Goal</strong><br />
By finding your ideal weight range for you body type, you allow yourself to figure out how you want to<a href="http://WeightLoss-jwx5ys7k.trustedreviewfinder.com"> lose weight</a>.  By gradually losing weight and feeling better, you will develop a system of eating that is easy to stick with and produces continuous results.</p>
<p>You can use http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm to help calculate what might be a healthy weight.  When in doubt, see a physician or nutritionist.</p>
<p>2) <strong>Add Physical Activity<br />
</strong>For me, this meant finding ways to simply be more active.  During the evening, if I was bored and wanted to have a snack, I&#8217;d go for a walk across campus to the local convenience store to see if  could pick up some milk or something for the week.  Anytime you can get out and just do five or ten minutes of exercise, your body will be thankful! Obviously, some time of cardio and resistance training can be added as you make progress.  I suggest starting with an activity that you have no problem performing two to three times a week.</p>
<p>3) <strong>Eat When Hungry<br />
</strong>Many people resort to cutting too many calories in an effort to<a href="http://WeightLoss-jwx5ys7k.trustedreviewfinder.com"> lose weight</a>.  I can testify to the fact that not eating enough only leads to feeling tired and worn out, and overdoing it later.  Throughout my search for a balanced diet, I&#8217;ve found that its important to always meet your calorie goal, and feel good about it.</p>
<p>4) <strong>Eat Slowly<br />
</strong>This is something I did not want to hear when I started to improve my eating habits.  I used to mow down food, and as a result, keep going for more, without even enjoying it.  Since, I have started to enjoy my food, add different spices, and slow down while eating.  I use a knife and fork at most meals, and drink plenty of water throughout the meal.  As a result, I realize that I&#8217;m full before two or three plates have gone by.</p>
<p>5) <strong>Drink Water<br />
</strong>Water is a part of almost every article I write &#8211; and there&#8217;s a good reason for this.  Water keeps you going, and more importantly, keeps your body going.  Your metabolism, nervous system, and brain, they all depend on water to carry out your activities.  Drinking at least 8 glasses a day will help you stay motivated to eat healthy and get out and moving.</p>
<p>6) <strong>Plan Your Meals<br />
</strong> For me, this means looking forward to my meals.  You can pack a lunch in a cooler or bag and bring it anywhere.  When your only option is a sugary energy bar or pizza down the street, you don&#8217;t give yourself a chance. Pack up any collection of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and nuts to create snack food that is guilt free.</p>
<p>7) <strong>Structure Your Diet with Goals<br />
</strong> This is another thing that has brought me great success.  On my desk lies a once-blank calendar of April.  For each day that I am happy with my eating and exercise, I write &#8220;PERFECT&#8221; in the box.  If I have an extra cookie or two, that&#8217;s ok, because I&#8217;m still working towards my goal.  If I go overboard at lunch and dinner, I make a note.  It&#8217;s a great way to keep yourself honest, while learning that some snacks are ok in moderation.</p>

</strong>Some people think that if they eat healthy all week, they can have a little fun on the weekend and drink 30 beers in one night, and wake up and go to McDonald&#8217;s.  While you can drink AND eat such things in moderation, it is the unfortunate truth that a weekend fling could end up stopping all the progress you may have made during the week.  If you&#8217;re going to drink while <a href="http://WeightLoss-jwx5ys7k.trustedreviewfinder.com">losing weight</a>, do so in moderation, and avoid the desire to pig out on junk food.</p>
<p>9) <strong>Get Support</strong><br />
A friend and I have been keeping track of our progress for the last year or so.  We tell each other what we had for lunch, when we have our &#8220;cheat meals,&#8221; and how well we did at the gym that day.  It is a constant source of encouragement, and always reminds me that the gradual progress is a great feeling.</p>
<p>10) <strong>Track Your Foods<br />
</strong> This is something I really did not want to do. Counting calories? Who needs it.  But I have been tracking my foods on TheDailyPlate.com, and have really enjoyed being able to look at what I eat over time, how much exercise I get, how much water I drink, and how much sleep I&#8217;ve gotten over the past month.  This site truly is a great resource, and helps you stay on track with people with similar goals.</p>

<p>It is very important to educate yourself on what foods are truly healthy and what foods are truly bad. Your ultimate goal is to lose weight to look better and to be healthier.  Never put your health at risk needlessly for a diet.  Also, it is very important to realize one thing for true weight loss success: a diet is what you eat not what you do.  A weight loss plan is something you need to think of as turning over a new leaf. You will love how you look and feel, so you want to stick with the plan. Thinking of it as a diet sounds negative think of it as a new healthier lifestyle.  A good mindset is the most important part of a weight loss plan. Always remember  that if you stray from your new healthier lifestyle occasionally it is ok, but too often and you could be completely erasing all your hard work.  Next I want you to go through your refrigerator and cupboards and donate any foods that are going to be a temptation for you. They should be removed from your home immediately! Purchase foods that are good for you especially green leafy vegetables. I also always stock pile carrots, I love them and when I am having one of those days that I just want to eat and eat I will munch on carrots all day.   It is a good idea to watch out how many carbs you are consuming, but remember that you do need a little. (I am not an expert in nutrition, so please do some research on healthy eating habits or contact a nutritionist. It really is very important.)  It is important to find an exercise program that is right for you. While cardio is a great way to shed weight remember that you don&#8217;t want to jump right into hard core cardio as this may put to much stress on your heart.  Instead ease into a slower pace cardio routine such as speed walking. I recommend pilates It is a safe pace with great results. Don&#8217;t underestimate it as you move up in difficulty it gets more and more challenging.  A healthy diet combined with a great workout always pays off.  I do also recommend a health supplement to replace any vitamins you may not be consuming. Your best bet is to consult your doctor for health supplements.</p>

 People who don&#8217;t smoke, eat five (5) servings of fruits and vegetables daily, exercise regularly and maintain a normal weight account for a mere 3% of the adult population in the United States, according to researchers.

 Data was collected on 153,805 adults throughout the country. The data came from 2000 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, an annual survey of the nation&#8217;s health. They wanted to see the proportion of adults that met the definition for a healthy lifestyle.
</p>

 They found 76% of the people surveyed were nonsmokers, 40.1% maintained a healthy weight, 23.3% said they ate at least five (5) fruits and vegetables daily, and 22.2% said they exercised at least five (5) times a week. When they looked at the combination of all four factors, they found that only 3% of adults meet their criteria of a healthy lifestyle.

 Not leading a healthy lifestyle has taken its toll. There are millions of adults in this country leading less than optional lifestyles, and that&#8217;s translated into the obesity epidemic and higher risks of chronic diseases.

 Those who live a healthy lifestyle live longer and have reduced disease risks, including the risk for heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. They also have reduced medical expenditures and a better quality of life. I just watched an article on T.V. whereas a leading doctor said that most of our health concerns in life come from smoking and secondhand smoke.

 The message is not new. Don&#8217;t smoke, don&#8217;t be overweight, exercise regularly and eat right. It&#8217;s exactly what our grandmother&#8217;s have been preaching to us for over 50 years. People are just squandering disease fighting opportunities. The result is disease and premature death that simply does not have to occur.

 Todays culture promotes a sedentary lifestyle, which simply means our current lifestyle in this country supports sitting around. Within that, we are bombarded by advertisements telling us to eat all this junk food. Count for an hour how many food commercials come on your T.V., and you will see unhealthy food ads. We have to figure out how to encourage ourselves, and others to buck the lifestyle we have created for ourselves. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I&#8217;m just like everyone else, sitting around watching ballgames, eating unhealthy at times myself.
